Two loops of birch lamella hold two lacquered trays for maximum surface area in minimum space. The shelves' upturned edges give it a distinct look but also function to keep the items placed on them secure. This fluid design is the work of Alvar Aalto for the Paimio Sanitarium in 1932, but remains just as timelessly modern today. The lightweight side table can be placed at the end of a couch to hold coasters and magazines or used as a nightstand. It also works great as an entry way catch-all table for keys and mail.
